'A Thoughtful View'

Picture
This beautiful poem was
written many years ago by Margaret Cartwright who was laid to rest with her friends on Wednesday 9th February 2022 in her 100th year,
in this old church yard!

‘A Thoughtful View’
“At the church door there I stand,
My eyes survey the wonders of the farming land,
The sky is overcast and grey,
And reveals the weather of the present day.
Around me lie some dear old friends,
Whose jokes and fairy tales,
In years gone by did never end.
Oh, there is a peaceful calm,
And heavenly balm,
In this old church yard where I stand”

FACE MASKS ARE NOW MANDATORY FOR CHURCH SERVICES

If you intend to attend  church please be aware that it's now compulsory to wear a face-mask whilst entering and exiting the church.  Whilst seated they may be removed. They should be worn when singing.

Those aged under 13 need not wear a face covering and there are others who have medical exemption from this government ruling. Those leading services and worship will also not need to wear a face covering as long as they continue to remain at a distance from others.

Reading -James 5:13-20:The Prayer of Faith13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. 17 Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. 18 Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. 19 My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, 20 remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.

Lets us Pray...

FOR THE PEACE OF THE WORLD: Almighty God, from whom all thoughts of truth and peace proceed; Kindle, we pray thee, in every heart the true love of peace; and guide with thy pure and peaceable wisdom those who take counsel for the nations of the earth; that in tranquillity thy kingdom may go forward, till the earth is filled with the knowledge of thy love; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

A Prayer for N.I: Almighty God, the fountain of all goodness, we humbly beseech thee to behold thy servant, Queen Elizabeth. Endue her with thy Holy Spirit; enrich her with thy heavenly grace; prosper her with all happiness; and bring her to  thine everlasting kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

FOR HOSPITALS : Almighty God, whose blessed Son went about doing good, and healing all manner of sickness; Continue, we beseech thee, this his gracious work among us, especially in the hospitals and infirmaries of our land; cheer, heal, and sanctify the sick; grant to the physicians, surgeons, and nurses wisdom and skill, sympathy and patience; and send down thy blessing on all who labour to relieve suffering and to forward thy purposes of love; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

FOR THOSE IN AFFLICTION OR DISTRESS :Almighty Father, be present, we beseech thee, with those who are in sorrow, in suffering, in sickness, or in distress; and be thou their abiding stay and succour; for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord.

THE SICK AND SUFFERING :Heavenly Father, we pray for the sick and suffering. Help them to know your love that they may seek strength from you, and find peace and heal- ing in your presence; through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.

COVID 19

As Covid-19 continues to spread please note the following interim policies at Holy Trinity Ballylesson, Parish of Drumbo.
1. Until advised otherwise Sunday Services, Sunday School, Genesis:AM and weekly activities will continue as normal. The guidelines from the House of Bishops will be rigorously applied. Everyone attending Church will be required to use the sanitisers provided (these are now in limited supply) During this uncertain time we will refrain from refreshments after the service and the collection will now be in the form of a retiring offering with plates placed at the exist. If anyone is uncomfortable with the idea of attending church services, worship resources can be found online at
https://www.ireland.anglican.org/prayer-worship or copies of the BCP can be made available to those who don’t have their own copy at home.

2. If you feel unwell or are in the ‘at risk’ group please do not attend service/activities. Please inform the Rector by phone or text on 07808481669 this is the case. To ensure that the Rector are best placed to support our most vulnerable parishioners at this time, casual visitation will be suspended. All those involved in pastoral ministry in the parish will also be advised to follow this pattern.

3. If any church organisation or activity group believes that due to age profile, proximity of people in an enclosed space or out of genuine concern for the welfare of attendees that it is appropriate to cancel/postpone any event they have the support of the Rector and leadership team. Any consumption of foodstuffs/refreshments/use of the kitchen must be authorised by the leadership team.

4. Please remember as Christians we are duty bound to look out for each other. If you are able, please ensure to be considerate of those vulnerable people around you and assist them if you can. We have a number of parishioners willing to deliver essential groceries and medication in the event of self-isolation for those who are at risk.

5, Provision of children’s ministry in the parish is under review. Direction will be given in the next few days.
'Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.' Joshua 1:9

With every blessing,
Mervyn
Reverend Mervyn Jamison
Rector.

So one of the set readings for next Sunday is from Joshua 1. A very appropriate reading for the current uncertainty and fear that's sweeping throughout the world...
'This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.'

The Prayer of Faith
James 5 13-16
